Intel, the world's largest chip maker is planning, in the fourth quarter of this year, the SSD size from 2.5 "to 1.8 to press. For this the 25nm process to replace the old process with 50nm and 34nm and therefore provide the basis for NAND flash memory devices, and a capacity of 300 gigabytes.

The purpose these devices is not the normal retail market, but these devices are still too expensive in 2011. Rather, these are aimed at high-end camcorder off, Blurayplayer or motor applications. The consumer still needs not such small drives, and eventually dispose smallest netbooks like the Eee PC on 2, 5-inch drive bays, which are equipped with SSDs happy with the end user plenty of room at low prices, and wholly shock absorption. The desktop models in the X 25-M series will reach the capacity limit of 600 gigabytes, which is currently about half. With the 25nm process, the SSDs are all in all much more interesting to end users, as they link finally usable capacity with affordable prices, including problems with file fragments and default problems should by then be largely eliminated. When and at what prices the 1.8 inch drives in OEM applications is available for use will not be clearly defined, the first products are suspected for the first quarter of 2011
